Just an exciting update!!! Not sure how many are/were aware that we have been battling with social security on Craig's behalf for over six years. After about 4 years with no results we hired an attorney. He was able to appeal the decision for us and ultimately get Craig a hearing before an Administrative Law Judge. In February we went before the judge who heard the case and asked Craig some questions. We were told 60-90 days before we would hear and that was hopeful. The courts are so backed up that it has been taking 90-120 days on average. Once a decision was made it would be another 30-60 days before we could expect to hear on the amount of back payments and ongoing monthly payments he would be entitled too. Well we got lucky and had a ruling within 30-45 days and he started to receive a small payment each month as of May as well as Medicare. This past week on Wednesday he finally got his back payment settlement. While it was not for the full 6 years the judge ruled for, we are just grateful to have this chapter behind us and start planning the next chapters of our lives.
Thanks for everyone's thoughts and prayers over the past several years as we have faced many bumps in the road. We are hopeful that this tender mercy will allow us to buy a home next spring and begin looking into foster adoption.
