Hi Everyone,
I am Suzanne, I am 35 yo, and married to my DH for a little over 5 years! I have been overweight the majority of my life. I grew up in California just outside the capital. I started this journey a few years ago just doing research here or there mostly on the web but also have had the benefit of family members and friends who have already undergone WLS. My father had RNY 5 years ago (7/2009), his brother, my uncle, had his surgery 12/2012, and a cousin's husband had the sleeve I believe about 3 years ago. I figured I would eventually have WLS, especially in light of the family history of diabetes, heart disease, high cholesterol, and blood pressure, but I wanted to be sure I was completely ready. After a brief medical scare last summer, where the doctors thought I had a pseudo tumor, I decided now was the time. So I started the process of meeting with a weight management/bariatric doctor and his team, a bariatric surgeon, and started my 6 month insurance required pre-op weight monitoring period. The week I completed my 6 months I packed up my car and moved two states away to Washington to stay with family until I could find a place to live. A new job opportunity was waiting for me in Beaverton, OR and I figured the timing must not have been right. Being mere weeks from surgery and I was starting over in a sense, talk about frustrating
. Gratefully the insurance requirements and health care laws are different here in Oregon, so I didn't have to go through another insurance waiting period. But being new at work I did have to wait 6 more months to be eligible to take medical leave. Also having to establish with a new surgeon, reapply and get approved through my new insurance company, and redoing some of the medical tests and exams took up part of the 6 month wait. I was fortunate to receive a recommendation/referral by my bariatric doctor to a highly regarded surgeon in the Portland, OR area, and that she took on my case. I am happy to report that this month on Sept. 15, 2014 I will embark on the next phase of my new journey. Looking forward to many healthy and happy years to come.
I welcome everyone's feedback, encouragement, and/or advise...
